Hokui's Mission

Hokui, which in the Ewe language of the Volta Region of Ghana means "cowry", is a mission-driven cooperative of handicraft producers that seeks to:

  • Engage in the production of innovative, high-quality, one-of-a-kind handicrafts to meet growing domestic and export market demand,

  • Secure the trust and loyalty of our customers and partners by producing to specifications, meeting deadlines, and excelling in customer service,

  • Lead the development and production of excellent Ghanaian and African handicrafts,

  • Provide for the socioeconomic needs and independence of its members through education, training and support.

Evans Amuyaw, Chairman. He is 45 and Ewe and hails from Vakpo in the Volta region of Ghana. He is an SSS graduate. Learnt arts in school and became a carver when he started to trade in handicrafts. He has been doing this for the past 12 years.

 

Prince Paemka, Cooperative Vice-Chair. He is 30 and Ewe and hails from Vakpo in the Volta region of Ghana. Completed middle school, entered into apprenticeship to learn to carve. He has been involved in the production and sale of crafts for the past 6 years.

 

Pascal Anani, Cooperative Treasurer. He is 28 and Ewe and hails from Vakpo in the Volta region of Ghana. He has been to Senior Secondary school and has been involved in the production and selling of crafts for the past eight years. He learnt to carve in school and also entered into apprenticeship for two years.

 

Frank Todda, Cooperative Secretary. He is 22, and Ewe. He hails from Kpando in the Volta Region of Ghana. He is an SSS graduate and has been involved in the production and sale of handicrafts for the past 3years. He learnt to carve in school. Developed carving on his own because he is talented.

 

Francis Quarshie Buo, Cooperative Organizer. He is 25 and Ewe and hails from Vakpo in the Volta region of Ghana. He is a J. S. S graduate who has been involved in the carving business for the past three years. He learnt to carve by watching his friends and relatives carve after he completed school. He moved to Accra to do business.

 

Christian Owusu. 25 years of age, a Ewe who hails from Anfoe in the Volta Region of Ghana. He is an SSS graduate and has been involved in production and selling of wood carving for the past seven years. Learnt to carve in school and also entered into apprenticeship for eight months.

 

Godson Anku. 25 years of age, a Ewe who hails from Vakpo in the Volta Region of Ghana. He is a JSS graduate and has been involved in production and selling of wood carving for the past seven years. Learnt to carve by watching friends and relatives who are very good at carving.

 

Mohammed Ndiax Chikh. 26 years old, hails from Dakar, Senegal. He is specialized in the production of drums and other musical instruments such as corals, xylophones etc. Entered into apprenticeship for sometime but had to move to Ghana upon the death of hi s father. He has been involved in the production and sale of his type of crafts for the past 11 years.

 

Divine Agbenowu. He is 24, Ewe and hails from Kpando in the Volta Region of Ghana. He is a JSS graduate and learnt to carve from friends and has been involved in the production and sale of handicrafts for the past 4 years.

 

Victor Quarshie. He is 42, Ewe and hails from Awatey in the Volta Region of Ghana. Schooled in Lome, Togo. Entered into apprenticeship for 3 years to learn to carve. Has been involved in the production and sale of wood carvings for 25 years.

 

Lucas Amedegunu. 28, Ewe and hails from Kpando in the Volta Region of Ghana. Completed JSS and went into apprenticeship. He has been carving and selling for 12 years.

 

Johnson Addo. 36, Ewe and hails from Vakpo in the Volta Region of Ghana. Completed SSS. Learnt to carve in school and at home. Has been producing and selling handicrafts for the past seven years.

 

Emmanuel Ayiklui. 30, Ewe and hails from Vakpo in the Volta region of Ghana. Learnt in school and was ant apprentice for three years. Has been producing and selling for 6 years.

 

Evans Morkli, Hokui representative, VQI representative, Ghana. Evans is an animator and organizer who coordinates VQI orders in Ghana and works with the Hokui Cooperative Handicrafts Ltd. Evans has worked with VQI for the past two years.  He recently participated in the Ghana New Ventures Competition, held in Accra, Ghana.  Evans holds a Senior Secondary Exam Certificate and has attended a Roman Catholic seminary in Ghana. Contact | Contact2
